Sunday afternoon, just get out from the movie in Dublin with all familly. Les Miserables, latest version. Of course I know the traditional version of the story but it was the first I saw the musical.
It was beautiful, and long, and bloody and for my boys definitely boring. But I felt at several moments just moved by the emotions rising in me, the light, the purpose, the clarity. Jean Valjean just founded his purpose, his path and to give his life to God, he served selflessly the people around. With Cosette in his life he learnt unconditional love and as he sing in one of the final scenes, “she was never mine”. There is not possessiveness in the true Love.
In the crucial moment he has the power to take a life to his main persecutor, Javert. But Valjean set him free, full of forgiveness. “You did just your duty” comment Valjean. There is not the negotiation, expectation for some service or pay back. Javert, committed to the law is set free by Valjean committed to the God. Well, even Javert’s the virtues and righteousness while following without the Heart can lead to the hell…
I saw Victor Hugo’s story, but I saw also the Gita story. Follow your purpose, Dharma, serving it selflessly with detachment from the results, forgiveness, unconditional Love, devotion and surrender to God over the darkness of the Ignorance. All is there. So was Victor Huga yogi?
Probably not, but the Truth is universal as the Truth is Love. And there is not really important which path leads us to it, the important is to walk our talk.
Sadly enough, French gave us revolution and the Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, but they are fighting the new fight for/against the freedom of the gay marriage. Are we still in the Middle Age? A lot can be argued, but as long as we are all the citizens of the same democratic country, we have the same rights and obligations. How it comes that there is still discrimination because of the sexual orientation???? It may lead as well to the barricades again!
We tend to believe that what we think and what we feel is THE reality. But is is not, it is just veil of Illusion that make us blind to the reality. Let’s just stop for while and ask the little question:
And what if what I think to be the absolute truth is not the Truth at all?
