Yesterday I was playing with my iPhone. For some unknown reason I found the CamWow application and I was trying it. The result was so hilarious that we were literally crying out loud of laugh with my daughter.
Right? I told you….
Then the thought occurred to me. This iPhone game is actually perfect demonstration how our inner apparatus (antahkarana, citta, mind) works. It is like a mirror inside of us in which all objects reflect. The problem is, that we take this apparatus as “I”. We associate us with it and we believe that I am… Ego. I have always feeling that it is like watching the Chinese puppet shadow theatre. We watch the reflect on the screen and we believe THIS is the reality, while the true puppets are behind the screen. It is same with us: we believe we are the shadows acting and reacting in the world, while it is just our Ego taking itself for the True Self who is peacefully observing behind the screen. If we are able to remove the screen of the ego, then we can realize our True Self.
Now, back to CamWow. Did you realize how many times you witness or live the same situation that your friend, husband or dad but both of you have different perception of this situation? Did you see how the same movie make you cry but your kid is just bored? How often you don’t feel comfortable with one person while your best friend find this very same person great?
This is because we see the world trough our very own lenses and they are never same with anybody else. Our mind is this huge distorting lens colored by our inner conditioning: our education, our experiences, our exposure to many different views of others, the culture of our families, countries and continents. This inner conditioning leads us to situations that appear to us as outer influences on our life, but in reality they are consequences of our own actions and conditioning… which create more of conditioning and more reactions and more situations… till we break the cycle of our karma, of causes and effects, till we learn our lessons and we can break free.
So what to do? Well, we need to de – color our lenses! Step by step, trough awareness and practice (hey, not just of asanas, we can already agree on the fact that yoga is not just about asanas, right?) So yes, we move our body, we bring the breath in, we still the mind for moment, and all its “vrittis”, fluctuations, inner talks, judgments and anxieties, and with patience and detachment we build up the consciousness of the right discernment (viveka) between permanent and impermanent, between pleasurable and painful (which we usually confuse), about selfish and selfless, about who we are (Self) and we are not (Ego).
But in the mean time, let’s at least realize that we can feel we are “right” and other person is “wrong” for the simple fact that our CamWow has different lens, and till we both have the colorless lens without distortion, we can keep our own truth and respect the different truth of people around us. As I heart today: between being right and being kind always choose being kind:)
And, if nothing from above talk to you, at least have a fun with CamWow!
