The recent events in Paris shocked all Europe and I dare say all democratic world. The freedom of expression, the cornerstone of democracy, was attacked. Even more, jewish population of France was targeted and 4were killed, not the first time.
My post is not about french politics or Islam. It is about human need to live in the box. With the limited Mind we have a limited view on the world around. With the inner emptiness we are looking for reassurance, structure and meaning to our existence outside of us, but in the narrow space of what our Mind ( remember, limited one) can grab. Once we find this reassuring shortcut, in order to feel sure and right about our choices, we start to defend our views and impose them to others ( of course, if we are right, they are wrong).
25 years and 2 months ago I was in manifestations in Prague: Velvet revolution, fall of communism. It was the end of the Cold War. At that time, I was growing up with the fear of capitalists from West and “American imperialist who wanted to enslave and abuse of free working class”. With the help of the atomic bomb. I remember my sleepless nights thinking about atomic bombe of Americans falling on my parents and myself… My husband ( French) was probably growing up with the fear of Russian spies and their atomic bomb, “trying to impose the dictate of communism on the ” free” Occident.”
Well, Cold War is over but the humanity in need of expression of its dark side have a new Fear: Islamic terror. In this time, in the name of God, let’s impose our view on the world. And let’s kill for it, because we are justified by our rightness of how things should be…
I don’t see any difference. The form of opposition between Light and Darkness change, the obvious content also, but the principle is the same: ignorance, identification of ourselves with what we are not, the need of Ego to see us as different from others.
The problem of totalitarian communism was resolved on the level where was created: within ” enlightened” communist Mikhail Gorbachev and others follow ( thanks Vaclav Havel).
The resolve of the problem of radical Islam has to come from Islam itself , with the movement of consciousness of those Muslims that are aware of in which trap they are walking.
And we have to keep our mind and views open. Not in the box, not out of box, but without any box. The moment we start to point the fingers, we are at the same level of consciousness as those we are blaming. Let s take responsibility each of us for ourselves, our thoughts, words and acts.
